I’ve searched for sloths in Costa Rica, searched and searched, and was not able to see them in the wild. I didn’t search for macaws… it is sometimes when you don’t search anything that you find it.
On my way to Tortuguero in Costa Rica from San José, I stopped on the side of the road. There was a tree with a couple of beautiful Scarlet macaws. They mate from January to April (my last visit to Costa Rica was in a month of March) and nest in the holes of dead canopy trees. Searching for those during this period will help your luck to see them!
I went to walk around, when suddenly, one giant beauty flew over my head, landed in front of me, drank water and starred at me. What a delicious moment!
